Ag College Recruitment Day held at Birkey's Farm Store

Over 70 high school students from Marshall-Putnam, Bureau, Stark and Woodford counties took advantage of information shared at the annual Ag College Recruitment Day sponsored by Bureau, Marshall-Putnam, and Stark County Farm Bureaus. University of Illinois Marshall Putnam Ag in the Classroom assisted.

Representatives from University of Illinois, Illinois State University, Southern University at Carbondale, Western University, Illinois Central College, Illinois Valley Community College, Joliet Junior College, and Blackhawk College as well as Birkey’s Scholarship Program set up booths in Birkey’s Farm Store training room. Newly represented this year were Sauk Valley Community College and Career Link.

After a brief overview of each college’s programs, students circulated amongst the representatives. Students learned about scholarship opportunities, course offerings, student clubs, study abroad opportunities, and internships as well as a variety of additional details that are unique to college life. Each Farm Bureau manager shared information about local county scholarships available.

Ag College Recruitment Day is an excellent opportunity for students to visit with numerous representatives in one day. “Take the opportunity to learn about a school that you might not have driven to visit,” encouraged Tiffany Moodie, Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau manager. “You might find it changes your plans in a different direction.”
