Crops for College awards scholarships

The Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau Young Leaders group awarded scholarships to two very worthy recipients this year.  Roberta Toepper was awarded a $750 scholarship, and Joseph Gensler was awarded a $500 scholarship.

Roberta is a senior at Midland High School and the daughter of Randy and Lori Toepper.  She is planning to attend the University of Illinois to study Agricultural and Biological Engineering.  Joseph is a senior at Fieldcrest High School and the son of Thomas and the late Sheila Gensler.  He is also planning to attend the University of Illinois to study Agricultural Engineering.

The Crops for College scholarship program is administered and funded by the M-P Farm Bureau Young Leaders group.  They hope to encourage the youth in Marshall and Putnam counties to become agricultural leaders in their communities and on a national level.  One of its main fundraisers during the year is the annual tractor drive which this year will be held in conjunction with the Marshall-Putnam County Fair.  This year's tractor drive is being sponsored by Rumbold & Kuhn and will be held on Sunday, July 12.  Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. with departure at 11:00 a.m.  The cost is $35.00 per tractor.
